Evening Bunch: Goals 2023 Kickoff

Let’s set goals for 2023!

Join us as we review our goals from 2022 and set new ones for 2023. We’ll be breaking into small groups to talk about our hopes and dreams for our careers in the coming year.

This is a great opportunity to set some intentions and learn about what other members of our chapter are looking to accomplish in 2023. This is the first meeting in a two-part series. The follow-up meeting will be held at 7 p.m. December 7.

Host: Jenifer Kahn Bakkala

Mica L. Anders: “Ancestral Enslavers and the Enslaved”

Do you suspect your ancestors were enslavers or benefited financially from the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade? Have you found documents identifying enslaved people among the records for your ancestors? Professional genealogist Mica L. Anders will discuss how to examine census records, probate files, and property records and the potential emotions associated with identifying enslavers in your family.

This workshop will also provide tips on researching the descendants of the enslaved and provide ways to use genealogy to transform historical harm.

Mica L. Anders is a professional genealogist, lecturer, and oral historian. Her special interests include African American genealogy and families from Minnesota, Nebraska, & Missouri. She holds an MFA in art and enjoys combining her two passions—genealogy and art—to research, design, and curate community history exhibits. Ms. Anders is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
